After sorting my project video – see earlier post – I headed into University to help Ali in the studio with lighting techniques. I was there to guide her with different approaches to getting the shots desired – and I was the model – sorry. Ali had chosen an image to duplicate from Sharp by Nigel Parry, one of the portrait books I look to for ideas and inspiration. It is a moody image – like many images in the book – of Carl Ripken (a baseball player – I had to Google him). It’s a black background with one main light, a bit of backdrop light and some light shaping too. The shoot went really well ending in some images using a single beauty dish just to see if we could replicate another style in the book as we had a bit of time left in the studio. After an hour of Adobe Lightroom/SilverFX post-production I feel the images came out pretty good. With some extra time spent in post they will be really great images. Nice one Ali.
